What sets Lara apart is the setting. It sits on a flat treeless basalt plain under the You Yangs, which means almost no shading and serious wind exposure. Both of those change how we specify equipment, and the second one is the reason we do not use the same mounting hardware here that we would use in a sheltered Geelong West street.

Wind loading is a design input here

The plain gives Lara very little shelter. Wind loading on anything roof mounted is a calculation rather than a formality, and it affects rail specification, fastener type and spacing, and how far a panel row sits from the roof edge where uplift is worst.

The same applies to antenna masts, conduit saddles, outdoor enclosure lids and anything else exposed. Standard hardware that would last a decade in a sheltered street gets worked harder here. It is a small difference at installation and a large one when a strong north westerly comes through.
