Roof space you can actually use

Broad single-storey tiled roofs with generous unshaded area are the norm here, which means long uninterrupted panel runs, simple string layouts and no need to pay for module-level electronics to work around shading you do not have.

That makes a 6.6kW to 10kW array straightforward to install and comparatively cheap per kilowatt. The design work moves from what fits to what pays, and the answer to that comes from your consumption data rather than from the roof.

Sheds, workshops and the daytime load

Big blocks with sheds and workshops mean the household load profile is not the standard one. A workshop compressor, a second fridge or freezer, welding equipment or a hobby setup all draw during daylight, which is exactly when the array generates.

That daytime load is the strongest argument for going above 6.6kW here. Energy consumed on site is worth the full 30 to 45 cent import rate you avoid. Energy exported is worth under 5 cents. When a shed genuinely uses power through the day, the bigger array pays. When it does not, it mostly exports.

    Informally wired sheds are common. If the shed carries new load or hosts the inverter, the supply to it needs to be compliant.

Original boards and original wiring
